Nankhumwa pens Chakwera, tips him on idle MAREP funds

Leader of Opposition in Parliament Kondwani Nankhumwa has tipped government use money lying idle in the Malawi Rural Electrification Program (Marep) to rehabilitate the Kapichira Hydro-Electricity Power plant.

In a letter to President Lazarus Chakwera, Nankhumwa says estimates show that Marep fund has about K50 billion while Egenco says the project may require K17 billion.

Minister of Energy Ibrahim Matola has said Egenco is in the right position to give comment.

Egenco’s Public Relations Officer Moses Gwaza asked for more time to respond but said a similar suggestion came from the Parliamentary Committee of Natural Resources and Energy.
