Mzuzu Vendors Construct Permanent Structures At Taifa Market

Mzuzu City vendors in Taifa have started the construction of the permanent structures at the market to replace the infrastructure which was made of timbers decades ago.

Halifa Saidi, Taifa Market Chairperson said they consulted Mzuzu City Council to improve the structure of the market for them to create a conducive and safe environment for conducting their businesses because the timber shift structures were prone due to the fire and the thieves who came to steal.

“The old structures could not stand bad weather conditions. Our main goal for the project is to avoid fire accidents while at the same time contribute towards uplifting the face of Mzuzu City,” said Saidi.

MacDonald Gondwe, Mzuzu City Council Public Relations Officer said it was the council that gave the vendors permission to construct the structures at the market due to many requests that the business people in the market were making.

“As a council we decided to grant permission to the vendors for construction of the structures as partial fulfillment of Malawi 2063 which talks more about  the importance of good infrastructures in the country”, said Gondwe

According to Tabitha Kayira, a business operator said the development at the market will improve the situation at the market and at the same time enhances security to both business people and their customers.

“The structures that are being constructed here in Taifa market will help us a lot, one as a business person and also our customers will be protected from the thieves as you know not everyone comes to the market with a good will, and not only that the appearance of the market will also improve”, concluded Kayira

The new infrastructure will provide good business place and protection to both vendors and customers.
