The opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has cancelled a political rally scheduled for this coming Sunday at Masintha Ground in the capital Lilongwe.
Former President Peter Mutharika who is also leader of the party was scheduled to grace the political rally ahead of the 2025 polls.
DPP spokesperson Shadreck Namalomba has confirmed of the development in a statement made available to this publication.
According to Namalomba, the move is to allow party members to join all Malawians in commemorating Remembrance Day, which falls on November 11 every year.
“To the war veterans living, we thank, salute and wish you good health and long life. To the fallen heroes may their souls rest in eternal peace,” reads part of the statement.
Mutharika is currently outside the country.
