Renowned Malawian artist Atoht Manje, real name Elias Samson Missi, passed away after his performance at the University of Livingstonia in Rumphi.

The Musicians Union of Malawi (Mum) expressed shock at his death, highlighting his contributions to preserving the country’s culture through music.

A letter dated October 8, 2023, from Mum’s general secretary, Tonney Chitimatima,  Atoht Manje’s remains were taken to Lilongwe on Sunday and will be buried today in Mangochi.

Atoht Manje, known for his unique music style with the Bazooka Vybz Band, was a dominant figure in Malawi’s music industry. Born in 1989, he leaves behind a wife and four children.

Many, including fellow creatives, mourned his loss on social media.
