Musicians, fans mourn Martse

The music industry is mourning for Martse, real name Martin Nkhata, who died yesterday from burns sustained during a fire accident.

The rapper suffered 48 percent burns after the Monkey Bay house he slept in caught fire. He was in Mangochi on vacation with friends.

According to his elder brother, Jerome Nkhata, the artist succumbed to his injuries at around noon in the intensive care unit at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) in Blantyre.

 “Martin has passed on at lunch today. I don’t have any details about the funeral arrangements now,” he said before cutting the line. 

The rapper was transferred to QECH from Mangochi District Hospital where he was first admitted to.

Following the news of his passing, various artists took to social media to pay their tribute.

Wrote Phyzix: “Rest in peace little brother Martse.”

Videographer Gift Sukez Sukali wrote: “Rest well my brother. Your legacy will forever be upheld. All times we worked together, you taught me something I will forever be grateful of. This is a sad day for Malawi.”

Scores of other artists and fans took to social media to pay their tribute to the fallen artist who celebrated his 28th birthday on Friday.  

News of the rapper’s fire accident broke on Saturday.

Artists then took to social media to wish him a quick recovery.

Martse is known for songs such as Adidas, Mwano, Mkatimo and Mwapindulanji.
