The Malawi Police Services (MPS) is keeping a tight lid on their interrogation of a man alleged to have been collecting money from people in exchange for employment in the law enforcement agency.
Details have emerged that one Chipiliro Kaliopa, was allegedly soliciting money from unsuspecting youths using his strong attachment to the governing Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and Homeland Security Minister, Jean Sendeza
The allegations blew out after scores of bogus recruits were on Monday sent back from Mtakataka and Kanjedza Police training schools for not meeting the needs of the job.
Nevertheless, the MCP and Sendeza have distanced themselves from Kaliopa and have since called for the police to investigate the matter.
According to reports, Kaliopa was collecting about K150 000 from the desperate individuals.
Asked as to how far they have gone with the matter, Deputy National Police Publicist Harry Namwaza stresses that they are still investigating the matter.
