MP Ben Phiri implicates MCP in Salima shop raid

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) MP for Thyolo Central, Ben Phiri has asked Minister of Homeland Security Ken Zikhale Ng’oma to explain to the House allegations that some Malawi Congress Party (MCP) cadres were involved in a police operation in Salima to force refugees and asylum seekers to relocate to Dzaleka camp.

Speaking in Parliament today, Phiri alleged that there is evidence of a video clip circulating on social media showing police and some people linked to MCP carrying out the operation.

Phiri has described the involvement of the alleged party group as a sign of lawlessness hence demanding the answers.

Deputy Speaker of National Assembly Aisha Adams has indicated that the minister will respond at an appropriate time.
