Mobile courts bring justice to community

People of Senior Chief Mbenje in Nsanje District have commended Child Rights Advocacy Paralegal Aid Centre and the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) of Lilongwe Diocese for facilitating mobile courts in the area.

Speaking yesterday after attending a mobile court sitting at Bangula, a community member Hussein Jafali said people used to travel long distances to court at Nsanje Boma.

“We used to spend K4 000 to reach Nsanje to attend court sessions. Our friends from Senior Chiefs Mlolo spend about K20 000 on transport to Nsanje,” he said.

Another community member, Yobe Simenti, from Misamvu commended the organisations for bringing courts closer to people.

Child Rights Advocacy Paralegal Aid Centre executive director Alfred Munika said they have lined up 25 court sessions in the area.

“We have discovered that people of Senior Chief Mlolo need a magistrate to live in the area to try more cases on defilement, rape, incest and murder,” he said.

Child Rights Advocacy Paralegal Aid Centre and CCJP are implementing a project to fight gender-based violence in Nsanje with funding from the European Union to the tune of K11.6 million under the Spotlight Initiative.
