Musician McDonald Mlaka Maliro says he will launch his Gospel ministry before the end of the year.

Mlaka was speaking in an interview on the sideline of a music show at Simbeko Lodge on Saturday night where he performed with Mapale Band.

He said: “I want to thank Prophet Shepherd Bushiri for spiritually mentoring me while I was ministering under his ministry The Jesus Nation Enlightened Christian Gathering in Botswana, e-Swatini and in the Republic of South Africa. He nurtured me and now I have grown up and geared to stand alone. The musician said currently he is praying to God to guide him on how to establish his Gospel ministry, including the name.

“As it is said charity begins at home and I will establish my ministry here in Malawi and if God allows me to expand it to other countries I will do it. But the headquarters will be here in my beloved home country,” he said.

The music show, which started two hours behind schedule, had J Maga and Greenworld Band as curtain raisers with songs such as Dimingu by Joseph Tembo, Compensation by Driemo, Chinafuna M’bale by Lucky Stars and many more.

The band concluded its performance by performing Ndinadzasangalala by Rashley before surrendering the stage to Mapale Band at 23.00 hours.

Mlaka only jumped on stage at the midnight  mark dressed in all white. He started his set with Maloto followed by 18 other songs such as Achangamuka, Nkhanga zaona, Vinyo, Nditengedwa, Kamandidutsadutsa followed by covers of various famous musicians. He stepped down at 2.30am.

In an interview after the show, Mlaka thanked fans for attending the show in large numbers. He also apologised for the delays which he attributed to power outages.

He said: “I am shocked that people could come as far as Moutarara, Mourhumbara, Villa Nova da Fronteira in the neighbouring Mozambique while others have told me that they are coming from Chikwawa, Nchalo, Ngabu and Bangula just to support my show. I am overwhelmed and I am planning to come back soon before the year comes to an end.”

On his part, Simbeko Lodge managing director Kodo Mbesa described Mlaka as a humble musician.
