Deputy Minister of Education Nancy Chaola Mdooko says administration of the Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) examinations has been successful this year.
She said this in Blantyre on Friday during her tour of schools in the Southern Region where she appreciated the administration process of the PSLCE examinations which started on Wednesday and ended on Friday.
“All examination papers arrived on time in centres and the invigilators received their allowances before leaving for their duty stations, I commend Malawi National Examinations Board for this,” said Mdooko.
However, on a sad note, she confirmed that two deaths were recorded during the examination period in Lilongwe Rural East; one involving a candidate who collapsed in an examination room and was pronounced dead hours later while another involving an invigilator who was hit by a car.
Mdooko further cautioned parents to always utilise the online examination registration and paying system to avoid being duped by unscrupulous school proprietors which results in learners failing to sit for examinations.
Her warning came after reports that 120 Standard Eight learners have failed to sit for their examinations allegedly because some teachers misused their examination fees.
Kapeni Demonstration Primary School supervisor Lami Mizere said the Centre had registered 829 candidates, but nine did not turn up.
“We had six learners with special needs and they were given an extra 15 minutes to finish their examination paper,” he said.
