Deputy Minister of Education Monica Chang’anamuno has commended the Organisation for Sustainable Socio-Economic Development Initiative (Ossedi) for constructing two classroom blocks worth K60 million in Lilongwe.

Speaking during the handover on Friday at Chisanja Primary School in Lilongwe, she said the structures will support the development of education in the country.

Said Chang’anamuno: “I appreciate your support and I take this as a sign of your commitment towards ensuring that children in Malawi attain quality education.

“It is through education that this country will produce the much-needed human capital for national development as enshrined in the Malawi 2063.”

She said availability of adequate classrooms is in line with the National Education Sector Investment Plan (Nesip 2020–2030) main objective for the primary sub-sector of improving equitable access to quality learning for all children in primary education.

“Government is constructing additional classrooms to ensure improved learning environment for learners as well as constructing teachers’ houses in remote schools,” said Chang’anamuno.

Ossedi Malawi chairperson Chrissy Mbundungu pledged her organisation’s continued support to the education sector.
Council for NGOs in Malawi representative Mphatso Jezman appealed to the Ministry of Education to facilitate taxi waivers for building materials.

Ossedi constructed the two classroom blocks at Chisanja and Mchengaowiza primary schools with funding from Child Fund Korea.
The organisation also furnished the two classroom blocks with desks. n
