Mikuyu Prison In Zomba Registers Cholera Case

Zomba district health office spokesperson Arnold Mndalira has confirmed that one inmate from Mikuyu prison has been diagnosed with Cholera.

Mndalira said 24 other inmates are being treated for diarrhoea and added that prisoners take water from Likangala river whilst out gardening.

“We have supplied buckets, Oral Rehabilitation Salts ORS to the facility. We have tested the 24 prisoners for Cholera and the results will come in two days’ time,” he said.

Meanwhile, National prison spokesperson, Chimwemwe Shawa has downplayed the health scare saying, “the situation is under control and that there is a likelihood of having some cases after the results from the hospital”.
