MERA Employees Against Contract Renewal Of Director of Fuel Alinafe Mkavea

Malawi Regulatory Authority (MERA) employees have spoken against contract renew of one of their executives Alinafe Mkavea who is the director of fuel, threatens to take an industrial action.

The employees explained their concerns in a letter they issued.

The letter claims that MERA’s Executive Chief Officer Henry Kachaje is working behind the scenes to renew Mkavea’s contract which against the presidential direction on the 31st of May 2022 that no government officers’ contract is supposed to be renewed unless vetting processes have been done.

According to the employees, Mkavea has a series of offences against the institution hence their move to bar her contract renewal.

If nothing is to be done, the employees have threatened to leak a report which faulted Mkavea and involve the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to handle the matter.

They have also threatened to revive Kachaje’s recruitment scandal by involving the ACB.

When asked, MERA publicist Fitina Khonje, denied seeing the said letter and asked for more time to comment on the matter.
