The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has once again suspended preparations for the by-election in Mwansa Ward in Mangochi Municipality.

MEC Chief Elections Officer Andrew Mpesi has confirmed of the development in a statement made available to this publication.

According to Mpesi, the decision follows recent events that marred the integrity of the preparatory process.

Recently supporters of the Democratic Progressive Party and United Democratic Front stopped the commission from adding an extra day to the voter verification and registration process.

This is the second time the process has been stopped for issues related to electoral malpractice.
