There is heavy presence of armed Malawi Defence Force officers and men; and also police at Wakawaka market in Lilongwe ahead of planned demonstrations today.

The demonstrations have been organized by Human Rights Ambassadors-HRM-whose leaders are yet to arrive at the place.

One of the lead-organisers, Kingsley Mpaso, says the demonstrations are proceeding as planned although behind schedule.

Meanwhile the Lilongwe high court has only cleared Redson Munlo restraining HRM leaders Ben Longwe, Kingsley Mpaso, Ida Mazinga and others from participating in the demos.

The group is pushing for a referendum on whether President Lazarus Chakwera should continue serving as in that capacity.
