Still I Rise Foundation has donated K3.5 million physiotherapy equipment to Mchinji District Hospital.

Speaking yesterday during the event, the non-governmental organisation’s founder Andida Mando said he was pleased that National Bank of Malawi plc supported them with the equipment.

“The support comes after we have made several calls to corporate world to help us source physiotherapy equipment to donate to the hospital,” he said.

Mando said people in need of physiotherapy treatment were failing to get the service because the hospital did not have the equipment.

Mchinji district director of health and social services Juliana Kanyengambeta commended Still I Rise Foundation and National Bank of Malawi plc for the gesture.

She said the equipment will help many people seeking physiotherapy services at the hospital.

“It is rare for people to think of assisting the hospital. We are also grateful to the bank for joining the cause. We appeal to more well-wishers to help the hospital in various ways,” said Kanyengambeta.

National Bank of Malawi plc marketing and corporate affairs manager Akossa Hiwa said the donation was ongoing initiative covering 12 days during the festive season.

She said: “We have a 12-day festive season initiative to reach out to various institutions with assistance and Mchinji District Hospital happens to be one of the recipients selected for a donation.

“We are pleased that Still I Rise identified the physiotherapy department as needing support.”

Hiwa said as a bank, they believe that healthy people are the primary driver of the economy; hence, the donation.

Imran Zulu, a client at the physiotherapy department, said the equipment will help them recover fast.

“It was difficult to make simple exercises because of lack of equipment, but now recovery will not take long,” he said.

The donation included a treatment bed, wheelchair, lumber corsets, walkers and walking sticks.
