Malawi Blood Transfusion Service (MBTS) Balaka centre head Edyth Chimphamba has commended blood donors in the Eastern Region for coming forward to donate blood.
She expressed the sentiments on Sunday in Balaka District during a blood donation awareness and commemoration exercise.
Chimphamba said the region has collected more than enough blood units for the past three months.
Kumwanje: I want to save lives
“We even shared with other divisions such as Southern and Central.
“Our target in the eastern division is 12 000 units and we beat it.”
During the one-day blood donation exercise, MBTS collected 11 100 units.
“Our strategies are bearing fruits and we thank our valued blood donors for their selflessness. Balaka MBTS centre has more than 10 000 reliable blood donors who donate three to more times a year,” said Chimphamba.
Malawi Defence Force maritime soldier Grace Kumwanje said she has donated blood 27 times since 2010.
“My aim is to save lives. I urge others to do the same,” she said.
Machinga district commissioner Rosemary Nawasha, who was the guest of honour, encouraged blood donors to continue with the noble cause.
“We need many people to donate blood to deal with the shortage of blood in the country,” she said.
