Malawi Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) director general George Kasakula says the institution is expected to improve its programming, especially during outside broadcast transmission.
This follows a Multichoice Malawi’s donation to the public broadcaster of broadcasting equipment including 10 box lenses, nine camera lenses, three tripod stands, 13 video monitors, 10 BNC cables, and a Betacam player.

In an interview on the sidelines of a symbolic handover of the equipment at Chichiri House in Blantyre yesterday, Kasakula said the institution was in need of such equipment.
He said: “The fact that we now have it, it means we are going to improve on picture quality, for example, that we send into people’s homes.
“Some of this equipment, like box lenses, is very expensive to get and it’s something that we always wanted to have but we could not because we did not have the resources.”
While pointing out that the equipment is sophisticated, Kasakula asked Multichoice Malawi to train staff at the institution on how to handle the equipment.
He said MBC staff needs to have the technical finesse of the equipment and that the institution is ready to make training arrangements if granted its wish.
In a separate interview, Multichoice Malawi corporate affairs manager Zena Makunje said the donation is part of their priorities in staying engaged with its broadcasting partners.
“This initiative is part of our greater plan under our Multichoice Expansion Programme which seeks to grow and invest in Malawi’s film and television industries through various initiatives like skills development, donation of equipment like we have done today and many others that will come soon in the future,”she said.
