Mayor pleased with road projects in Lilongwe City

Lilongwe City Council mayor Richard Banda has expressed satisfaction with the progress of road rehabilitation works in the city.

Speaking on Friday after touring Mtandire-AirWing Road project, he said the project will reduce congestion during peak hours.

“We embarked on the rehabilitation works because the city roads were in bad shape,” said Banda.

Lilongwe City Council director of engineering services Julius Tsogolani expressed optimism that the city would continue receiving funds from government to implement the projects.

“The council has already tendered for the maintenance of city roads during the rainy season,” he said.

Lilongwe City West Constituency legislator George Zulu (Malawi Congress Party) commended the council for upgrading Mtandire-AirWing Road.

“The only challenge so far is the delay to remove water pipes along the road, but we are hopeful that Lilongwe Water Board will remove them,” he said.

Mtandire Township resident Jonathan Break commended the council for rehabilitating the road.

“The road was impassable during the rainy season,” he said.

Besides upgrading roads, the council is also improving drainage systems in the city.

The World Bank is funding water and sanitation projects while Malawi Government is financing the road projects.
