Marching on to 2025

Listen

May 18 2023

This is a time to think deeply about our lives. Time to think. Time to reflect.

We are heading towards 2025. Time for politicians to wake up. Not to wake up to campaign and think and coin lies, but a time to think how they can make their campaign promises real.

Which is why we will always remember Ngwazi Dr H Kamuzu Banda on May 14. We remember Kamuzu because of all the presidents, he remains the best.

Voting is so far away for the politician. But for a voter like me it is just a stone throw away.

So, the parties will be going into conventions to elect their leaders. But people are tired because political solutions are seen not to be feasible, they have failed.

It is a time to think about our future, the future of this nation.

It is a time for the ruling elite to think about their campaign promises. What have you achieved?

Well, I keep looking at the pictures of that time running towards the fresh presidential election. There was hope. There was a time we all thought all will be better.

That was a campaign promise.

Look at it this way. Tonse Alliance said it outright that a bag of fertiliser would be at less than K15 000. Look at the price now?

By that, people will judge the Tonse Alliance.

Time is running out. Time is out.

Wait, a bag of maize now is running close to K25 000, yes K25 000. How much paracetamol would that buy?

But then, they even added a thing about creating  jobs. One million jobs. But, you see, how many jobs have been lost over these past few years?

We can’t talk about the job thing at Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (Admarc). By the way, what happened to one Lobin Lowe who fired everybody at Admarc? What really happened to him? Where is he? The answer may be in my pocket.

We will do things and business unusual. Pesident Lazarus Chakwera told the rest of us. That was on the fight against corruption. If there were a fight against corruption it is apparent it was just one of his dreams.

Now, that time is running out, Chakwera will have to think who really sent someone to frame the once powerful and venerate Martha Chizuma in a phone call that confused everyone else. The Tonse Alliance fight against corruption remains and it is just that: A pipedream.

Talk about crime. Isn’t it through this regime that we have seen some people trying to rob a bank in broad daylight? Where is that case? What happened to the officers connected to that case?

Surprised? Don’t be. This is the era we are in. It is an era that seeks to question: Was all that fuss about the Constitutional Court necessary? Was it worth it?

I may be asking too much. I may be wondering highly what they can’t deliver.

But then, Chakwera must look at what he may think of telling the people of the Republic of Malawi.

All these thoughts came back today as I was thinking that May 14 was Kamuzu Day. What other ruffian are we getting to the helm of power come 2025? They are all strategising and we are watching with impatient expectation.n
