Dorica Mtenje, a reporter for an online publication Maravi Post, has finally been released on police bail.
Mtenje was arrested on Thursday for purportedly for publication of a story to do with the National Intelligence Service.
Her arrest attracted anger from the media fraternity in the country and MISA Malawi Chapter Chairperson Teresa Ndanga condemned the arrest.
Ndanga then urged the complainant to withdraw the case.
“MISA Malawi has been advocating for civil remedies in issues of defamation as opposed to criminal defamation remedies that the country is following.
“We therefore call on both the complainant to withdraw the criminal defamation complaint and the police to release the detained journalist,” said Ndanga.
Meanwhile, Mtenje has denied authoring nor publishing the story in question.
