Maranatha Academy has pledged to award this year’s outstanding performer in the recently released Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) Examination results, Alinafe Chulu, a cash prize of K1 million.
The 12-year-old-Chulu was learning at Playdor Private School in Blantyre.
The decision to award Chulu is a slight diversion from the Academy’s tradition of awarding outstanding (JCE) and (MSCE) candidates from public and private schools.
According to the institution’s Managing Director, Enerst Kaonga, the Academy’s decision to award Chulu is part of its stance in promoting girl-child education.
“We feel proud in promoting girl-child education and having noted that this year, it’s a female student who is the overall performer, we said why can’t we encourage her with an award?
“So we are presenting her with K1 million as a token of appreciation and to inspire her to work extra hard. We know that this award will also enhance competition among learners in standard eight in the country,” said Kaonga.
He added Chulu will be awarded shortly at an event in Lilongwe, along with 13 outstanding candidates in this year’s MSCE examination results.
“We have sent 342 to various universities this year. It calls for a celebration, hence the Maranatha Academy Heroes Party at the BICC in Lilongwe on August 25,” said Kaonga.
