A 21-year old man has turned himself in at Chinsapo Police Unit, Lilongwe, after he allegedly killed another over a cellphone.
The incident occurred Thursday at Ntonthelera Village Traditional Authority Masumbankhunda in the district.
Deputy Public Relations Officer for Lilongwe police Sub Inspector Foster Benjamin has identified the suspect as Jampion Lesiton and the deceased Enock Zuma aged 30.
Benjamin said that,the suspect gave the deceased a mobile phone to repair, but he was given back a wrong phone by the repairer’s wife.
When Zuma rushed to get the handset back from Lesiton, a quarrel ensued and it ended into a fight when the suspect stabbed the victim with a screw driver.
He was pronounced dead on arrival at Kamuzu Central Hospital.
Outraged, the deceased relatives hunted Lesiton down, who had already surrendered himself to police.
They went on to set ablaze three houses before police came in to quell the situation.
Meanwhile, police have warned people against taking laws into their own hands.
