A 28-year-old man identified as Thomas Nkhata has committed suicide by hanging himself to the roof of his house in Mzimba, amidst concern over high cases of suicide in the district.

According to Jenda Police spokesperson, Macfarlen Mseteka, the deceased was found hanging to the roof by his mother when she entered his house on Sunday.

“She found Nkhata hanging lifeless to the roof of the house. Together with relatives they untied Nkhata and rushed with him to Jenda Rural Hospital, however, he was pronounced dead upon arrival,” Mseteka said.

He said the motivation behind ending his own life has not been established, adding that foul play was not suspected.
Nkhata hailed from Hanock Mhlanga village in the area of Traditional Authority M’mbelwa in Mzimba.
