Police in Phalombe have arrested a 38 year old man for allegedly operating an unregistered technical college.
Spokesperson for Phalombe police station Jimmy Kapanga, has identified the man as Samuel Kumwenda whose college was at Misewufolo in the district.
According to Kapanja, the suspect had about 40 students drawn from across the country.
Kapanga said that the college opened its doors on September 17, 2023 where students were paying K68, 000 for other programs, K38, 000 for technical courses and K8, 000 as registration fee.
However, few days ago, students became frustrated and started to demand their fees back following lack of essential learning materials at the college.
He added that when police instituted investigations following the complaint it received from some stakeholders.
It was established that the college was being run without a college registration Certificate from the Ministry of Education, and National Council of Higher Education (NCHE).
Samuel Kumwenda who hails from Namasalima village T/A Kuntumanji in Zomba district will soon appear befoure court to answer a case of operating unregistered college which contravenes Section 55 of Education Act, 2014.
