Jenda Police in Mzimba is keeping in custody a 24 year-old man for suspecting hm that he allegedly killed his nephew who was protecting his mother when the suspect had picked a fight with her for exposing his suit before the wedding day at Vibangalala location in the district.
Public Relations Officer for Jenda Police Station Sub Inspector Macfarlen Mseteka has identified the suspect as Philip Mwanza aged 24 and the deceased as Steven Shaba aged 21.
According to Mseteka, it is reported that the suspect planned to get married on Saturday October 28, 2023. On the said date the suspect’s sister(mother to the deceased) was conducting general cleaning in the house in preparation of the big day, in the process she took out his brother’s suit from the house a thing which angered the suspect and the two picked a fight.
In an attempt to protect his mother, Shaba(now deceased) joined the fight and exchanged blows with his Uncle however they were separated by the onlookers.
Few minutes later, the suspect went back to confront the nephew as to why he had joined the fight earlier, in a heat of argument the suspect furiously took a hoe handle and hit his nephew on the forehead who fell down unconscious.
He was rushed to Embangweni Mission Hospital where he died while receiving treatment, a postmortem conducted at the same health facility revealed that death was due to head injury.
The suspect is being been charged with murder which is contrary to section 209 of the penal code and will appear before court after the completion of paperwork.
