A 28-year-old man, Paul Chirwa, is currently in police custody in Lilongwe, facing allegations of illegally transferring K165,000 from an Airtel mobile money agent to his phone.
According to Hastings Chigalu, the public relations officer for Lilongwe Police Station, the incident occurred in Likuni.
Chirwa was intercepted at a roadblock in Bwemba. Remarkably, this is the third consecutive incident involving Chirwa, who appears to be conducting these transactions independently by deceiving the mobile money agents.
Paul Chirwa’s home village is Kadula, under Traditional Authority Mulonyeni in Mchinji District.
He is expected to appear in court soon, facing theft charges.
