Man in cooler for stealing 57 bales of sugar at Jenda in Mzimba

Jenda Police Station in Mzimba district has nabbed 25-year-old man for suspecting him that he stole 57 bales of sugar from Jenda-Wautali- Sugar Distributor shop at Jenda.

Public Relations Officer for Jenda Police Station Sub/Insp Macfarlen Mseteka has identified the suspect as Joseph Banda.

Mr Nelson Kaira who is the branch manager of the said shop discovered a big hole through a back wall upon opening during the morning of 26 April 2023. After conducting an audit, it was discovered that 57 bales and five packets of sugar were missing.

The matter was reported to Jenda Police Station the same day and through intelligence gathering and skills of the CID team of Jenda police, one suspect, Joseph Banda , was arrested in connection to the theft. So far 11 bales and 5 packets have been recovered and investigations are still underway to apprehend other culprits involved in the theft.

Banda has been charged with breaking into a building and committing a felony therein, contrary to section 311 of the penal code and he will appear before court very soon.

Joseph Banda hails from Ofesi Village, Traditional Authority Nyanja in Kasungu.
