Man handed 12 months jail sentence for attempting to sale uncle at Mk150,000

Nkhotakota First Grade Magistrate has ordered a 24-year-old man, Sekerani Brighton to serve a 12-month jail term for attempting to sell his uncle, Lemson Malichi, as a slave.

Nkhotakota police public relations officer Paul Malimwe said the court, through state prosecutor Thokozan Juziwell, heard that last December, the convict attempted to offer his uncle for sale to Lustiko Kachoto at K150, 000.

The court further heard that, the convict who pleaded guilty to the charge was arrested after the buyer revealed the deal to the victim, who later reported the matter to Mkaika police unit in the lakeshore district.

The convict comes from Chinjoka village under Traditional Authority Nkhanga in the district.
