Police at Mponela in Dowa District have launched a manhunt for an unknown driver who hit to death an unidentified male pedestrian in the early morning hours of February 21 at Kwindanguwo Village along Lilongwe-Kasungu M1 Road.

Mponela Police Publicist, Macpatson Msadala, said it is believed the unknown motor vehicle was being driven from the direction of Kasungu heading towards Lilongwe.

“The pedestrian sustained multiple fractures and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Mtengowanthenga Mission Hospital,” said Msadala.

The police spokesperson further said the remains of the deceased are being kept at the hospital’s mortuary waiting for identification.

Meanwhile, the police have asked people who might know friends or relatives to the deceased to pass the information so that they can visit the hospital for possible identification of the dead body.

Police have also appealed to well-wishers for any information that may lead to the arrest of the hit-and-run driver.
