In Nkhotakota, a 36 year-old man, Julius Nkhoma has died after taking beer excessive on an empty stomach at Mwalawatongole in the district.

Police learnt that on May 24, 2023, Nkhoma went on a drinking spree the whole day without taking any food.

When he returned back, he stole 50 kilograms of maize from the house of his mother.

The mother reported the matter to the community policing members who apprehended him and opted to report to police to ferry him to police station for questioning.

As members of the community policing were arranging to communicate with Nkhotakota Police, Nkhoma developed signs of weakness and later fell down. He died while on the way to Nkhotakota district hospital.

Postmortem conducted at hospital revealed that the death was due to hypoglycemia secondary to alcohol intoxication.

Police in the district are advising all drunkards to take food before consuming beer..
