40 -year- old man, Lameck Gwaza, has taken his life using thobwa which was at first suspected to have been mixed with poisonous substance.

The incident occurred on September 10, 2022 at his onion garden within Mgwira Village Traditional Authority Chitera in the district.

Gwaza was staying alone in a rented house at Mgwira village and had a piece of land which he used for irrigation farming.

On 8 September 2022, at around  6 o’clock, Gwaza left home saying that he wanted to meet his friend at unknown place and from that time he never returned back, as reported by his uncle.

On 10 September 2022 he was found lying dead by children who were hunting mice and he was found with an empty bottle of thobwa by his side.

The matter was reported to Namadzi Police Post where scene was visited.

The body was taken to Chiradzulu District Hospital where it was viewed and was pronounced that death was due to organophosphate poisoning and no foul play has been suspected.

Police are appealing to the general public to desist from eliminating their lives but rather seek guidance and counseling to avoid deaths by suicide.
