Man caught red-handed vandalizing ESCOM transformer, beaten mercilessly (watch video)

Police in Thyolo have arrested a 26-year-old Ndirande resident, Mayeso Mission, on suspicion that he has been vandalising transformers for the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) in the district.

The district’s police publicist, Amos Tione, has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press.

According to Tione, Mission was arrested at Makande, after together with three other accomplices, currently at large, vandalised another transformer.

Tione alleged that the four are also behind the string of transformer vandalism at Khonjeni Turn-off, Sports club and Mtambanyama trade centre in the district.

Mission hails from Chikunkhu village, Traditional Authority Mphuka in Thyolo District.

Meanwhile, investigations are underway to trace the other three who bolted.
