Man arrested in Dowa for being found with a gun without permission

Police in Mponela, Dowa district are holding in a custody a 26 year-old man, Chikumbutso Chisowa for being found with a gun without a permit.

Mponela police spokesperson Macpatson Msadala said that the suspect was arrested at the Khwema shop in the area of senior chief Dzoole in Dowa district.

Msadala said police were told by some people in the village about the suspected man, and when the police received this message they did not delay but rushed to where the man lives.

When police arrived at the house where the suspect lives, they searched the house and found a gun covered with a plastic sheet, along with a military uniform, without permission.

When the suspect questioned by the police, he said that he took the gun from Nthesa village in Ntchisi district where he picked it up from a field and he does not know who threw it away.

The suspect is expected to appear in court soon to face a charge of possession of a firearm without a permit.

Chikunbutso Chisowa comes from the village of Biwi in the area of chief Kalumo in Ntchisi district.
