Man arrested for Stealing 24 Million Kwacha from Catholic Women Organization

Police in Lilongwe is keeping in custody a 45 year-old man for allegedly claiming as travel agent and stole 24 Million Kwacha from women organization.

Deputy Police Publicity Officer for Lingadzi Police, Maria Kumwenda, has identified the accused person as Gilbert Chirambo who shole money belonging to Catholic Women Organisation (CWO) who were about to head to Italy for a pilgrimage.

Kumwenda said 30 CWO members intend to travel to Rome in Italy on May 11 but Chirambo convinced them that he was a travel agent and would buy them air tickets.

She added that after realizing that two months have gone the suspect failed to bring the women the tickets, women to report the issue to police.

Police arrested Chirambo and he only returned K9.9 million thereby remaining with almost K13 million for him to pay back.

Gilbert Chirambo is 45 years old and he comes from Chibwana Village, Traditional Authority Chikulamayembe in Rumphi.
