Likoma police is keeping in custody a man suspected for allegedly stabbing his friend to death Douglas Phiri.
Spokesperson for Likoma Police Sergeant Enala Kalua has identified the suspect as Prince Manyuka.
According to Kalua, the it was in the evening of March 27,2023 while at Jalo Trading Centre, in Traditional Authority Mkumpha in the district, the suspect picked a quarrel with a certain man (particulars not known) that ended into a fight.
Phiri (now deceased) who was passing by the place, tried to stop the fight but Manyuka stabbed him using a broken glass bottle.
The victim was taken to St Peters Hospital where he died while receiving treatment and Postmortem results conducted by medical practitioners at the hospital revealed that death was due to excessive loss of blood secondary to cut wound.
Following a report, Police arrested Manyuka who has since been charged with murder contrary to section 209 of the Penal Code and will soon appear before court.
Meanwhile, Police in the district have since appealed to members of the public to avoid taking the law into their own hands to avoid further occurrences.
Prince Manyuka is 18 years old hails from Kachere Village in the area of Traditional Authority Nkumpha in Likoma District.
