MAN ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTING TO SELL HIS OWN SISTER

Chilipa Police in Mangochi have arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion that he was offering to sell his biological sister.

Spokesperson for Mangochi Police, Amina Tepani Daudi has identified the suspect as as Mphatso Baison

Daudi said that on Wednesday 1 March , 2023, the suspect approached one of the Community Policing members under T/A Mtonda in Mangochi and pitched a business offer at a price of K4.5 million whose commodity was his own sister.

The community policing member tricked the suspect and took him to the chief of the area and alerted the police.

However, Daudi has confirmed that the suspect has confessed to have wanted to sell his sister, telling the police that he was forced into the act by poverty.

Baison will soon appear before court after to answer the charge of buying or disposing of any person as a slave contrary to Section 267 of the Penal Code which attracts a maximum penalty of 7 years imprisonment.

Mphatso Baison is 25 years old hails from Chawanje Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Ganya in Ntcheu District.
