In Lilongwe, a 44-year-old man, Rodwell Phiri, turned himself in to the police for allegedly assaulting and killing a relative, Sikayenera Leviyasi, during a dispute over chieftaincy matters in Dama Village, Traditional Authority Kalolo.
According to Lilongwe police spokesperson Hastings Chigalu, the incident occurred when Leviyasi visited Phiri’s home to deliver a message about a village funeral.
Phiri attacked Leviyasi with a hoe, causing severe head injuries before fleeing the scene.
Leviyasi was initially taken to Child Legacy Hospital at Namitete and later transferred to Kamuzu Central Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on Monday due to severe blood loss from a crushed brain.
Phiri now faces murder charges and will appear in court.
