Police in Bvumbwe, Thyolo, have detained Pierson Chibade, 49, on charges of sexually assaulting a 7-year-old child.

According to Sergeant Aubrey Singanyama, public relations officer for Limbe police station, the incident occurred on October 13, 2023, when the suspect and his wife visited the victim’s grandmother, who had suffered a stroke.

While his wife was sent to buy drinks from a nearby shop, Chibade allegedly took advantage of the situation and assaulted the victim sexually.

The incident was reported to Bvumbwe Police post, and medical examination at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital’s One Stop Centre confirmed the defilement.

Chibade will appear before court soon.

He hails from Laiti village under Senior Chief Bvumbwe in the district.
