MALAWI’S MINISTER CHIMWENDO & NAIROBI GOVERNOR SAKARA VOW TO DEEPEN BILATERAL TIES: People to people exchange visits on the card

Local Government, Unity and Culture   Minister Richard Chimwendo Banda yesterday held bilateral talks with Nairobi Governor, Sakaja Johnson at his office with an agenda to deepen cooperation on critical matters such as climate and energy partnerships, urban crises by bringing dignity to a rapidly urbanizing world among others.

During their discussions, the two leaders recognized that urbanization has a potential to disrupt clean energy, the importance of good housing to economic growth, clean cities among others.

In his remarks, Chimwendo said relations between Malawi and Kenya are based on shared values, economic, trade  opportunities and convergence of interests

“Malawi and Kenya both belong to one important trade and economic bloc, The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) that comprises 21 member states, and it is therefore important that the two great nations can reflect on various growing overall challenges and opportunities that can help to provide a larger framework for the activities between the two government including people to people exchanges hence today I was invited to meet the Governor Sakaja Johnson,” said Chimwendo Banda to reporters in Nairobi.

In his Twitter post the Governor, Johnson acknowledged the importance of meeting Malawi’s Minister of Local Government Chimwendo Banda where they discussed urban innovation, innovative climate finance as the top issues that may impede economies of the two governments.

Chimwendo was accompanied in the meeting by Minister of Lands Deus Gumba and Malawi’s High Commissioner to Kenya Calista Mutharika

At the ongoing Second Session for UN Habitat for Humanity Assembly, leaders have discussed various vital issues  localization of the SDGs, Urban crises recovery, Urban climate action, Universal access to affordable housing among others.
