Police at Lumbadzi in Lilongwe have arrested a 30-year-old man, Edson Nyalavu, on suspicion that he killed his 23-year-old friend over money embezzlement.

Lumbadzi Police Spokesperson Felix Kwinyani, has identified the deceased as Yerusalemu Kalupsa from Chitsulo Village in Traditional Authority Mwansambo in Nkhotakota District met his fate between the nights of August 7 to August 8 2022 at Lumbadzi Trading Centre.

Kwinyani said Sister to the deceased, Gezira told police that Nyalavu together with his accomplicies assaulted his brother, Yerusalemu to death on allegation that he unauthorizedly used money amounting to K40, 000.00 from Nyalavu’s customer which was meant for the payment of welding services.

He said the matter was reported to Lumbadzi Police Station where medical forms were issued to Yerusalemu and referred him to Chinkhuti Health Centre where he died while receiving treatment.

Nyalavu will appear before the court soon to answer the charge of murder contrary to Section 209 of the Penal Code and more arrests are expected as police investigations are underway, according to Kwinyani.
