Malawi Registering A Rise In Covid-19 Cases

Malawi is continuing registering an increase in covid-19 cases forcing the Ministry of Health to raise an alarm.

According to the statement released by the ministry of health on 16 June 2022, the country has registered 16 new cases in the past 24 hours with one recovery and one death.

The statement further say all the cases are locally transmitted with 12 in Blantyre, 2 in Lilongwe and 1 each in MZimba North and Mulanje.

The ministry says it is a myth that the cold weather causes colds and other respiratory infections in people and that flu is caused by viruses which is more likely to spread to people including children in schools and in close contact through respiratory droplets and arms.

The ministry has urged people in the country to prevent colds including covid-19 pandemic by washing hands with soap frequently to reduce the spread of germs and covering of mouth when sneezing and coughing to prevent the spread of the germs.

The ministry is encouraging all people including children of 12 years of age to get covid-19 vaccines at their nearest hospitals and health centres.
