Police in Rumphi have arrested 59 illegal immigrants that were locked inside a van at Phoka area in the district.

Rumphi Police Public Relations Officer, Tupeliwe Kabwilo says the driver of the van escaped after seeing police officers in the vicinity.

The illegal immigrants are waiting to answer a charge of illegal entry and investigations are underway to arrest the driver.
