Malawi, 3rd ‘poorest’ country, to spend over K300 million for independence day feast

Government has disclosed that the cost for this year’s Independence Celebrations is pegged at MK 320 Million

According to Richard Chimwendo Banda, one of the ministerial members, the funds were already provided in the national budget.

He says there will be national players, music concerts and a match between Nyasa Big Bullets and Yanga FC from Tanzania.

According to Chimwendo, government is engaging a president from another country to be part of the events from 5th July.

Malawi Independence is observed on July 6 every year. The country gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1964 until such time it was under the colonial rule of the British.- (MIJ ONLINE)
