Magla donates K15m to NPL’s Mothers’ Fun Run

Malawi Gaming and Lotteries Authority (Magla) has donated K15 million towards Nation Publications Limited (NPL) Mother’s Fun Run safe motherhood initiative whose beneficiary this year is Nkhata Bay District Hospital.

Speaking at the cheque presentation at Magla head office in Blantyre yesterday, Magla director general Rachel Mijiga said the authority was excited to be associated with the NPL noble cause to save lives in maternity wards, which are well known to have many needs.

She said: “We felt duty bound to support NPL on the noble cause and we are appealing to other well-wishers not only from the corporate world and government institutions to come forward to help mothers in the country.”

In his remarks, NPL deputy chief executive officer Alfred Ntonga described the donation as a significant boost to the cause and appealed for more stakeholders to contribute towards the improvement of maternal health in the country.

He said: “We set out the Mother’s Fun Run initiative to play a role in nation building outside our core function as a media house. We mobilise funds from different institutions so that together we reduce morality by donating medical equipment to maternity wards of the country’s public hospitals.

“We are, therefore, happy with Magla’s support which goes a long way in fulfilling this objective.”

This year, NPL targets to raise K200 million through the Mother’s Fun Run slated for October 7 2023.

NPL organises the fundraising fun run in which corporate institutions and individuals are encouraged to participate and make donations in the form of medical equipment.
