Magistrate warns suspects against boycotting court hearings

Karonga First Grade Magistrate Julius Kalambo has expressed concern over increased number of crime perpetrators failure to appear before the court of the law.

Kalambo made the observation during mobile court circuit that took place in Mwenilondo on Friday.

During the mobile court circuit, out of 10 child maintenance cases that were supposed to be heard, only two of the accused showed up.

The Evangelical Association of Malawi (EAM) sponsors mobile court circuits in Karonga as one way of dealing with gender based violence (GBV).

EAM Field Facilitator, Lucky Ngwira said, as an organization, they are impressed with the support the court is rendering to the communities.

One of the complainants, Winnie Gondwe said the communities need to continue working with EAM and the magistrate court to ensure that all perpetrators of various crimes, including GBV, are brought to book.
