The country’s Communications Regulatory mother body MACRA has confiscated equipment for Fast Networks Limited for allegedly illegally operating an international gateway fibre link to provide internet services.
Macra says in a statement that two directors of the firm have also been arrested and are expected to appear before the court.
“The illegal provision of internet services by Fast Network Limited is contrary to the Communications Act of 2016, section 31, subsection 1, which states that a person shall not provide electronic communications services except in accordance with a license issued by Macra,” the regulator says.
Macra further states that whoever wants to provide regulated information and communication technology services should first acquire a relevant license.
It further warns that, among others, providing broadcasting, postal, and courier services without a license is a crime.
