Machinga Police investigates an officer for receiving bribes from suspects to escaped in police custody

Liwonde Police in Machinga is investigating one of their officers for suspecting him that he allegedly aiding a burglary and theft suspect to escape from lawful police custody last month.

Liwonde Police Station Officer -In-Charge (OC), Ulemu Kalua has confirmed the development.

The officer whose name has been concealed, allegedly received K50 000 from the said suspect last month to assist them in there escape.

Kalua said the suspect, Hamza Issah, who has been rearrested in Zomba by complainants and communities, allegedly revealed that he bribed the said officer, adding they are now questioning and investigating the matter to determine either to go through the police disciplinary system or the criminal justice system.

Meanwhile, one of the complainants Absus-salaam Faduweck, has also said that he is looking for justice on the matter, arguing the tendency is what has increased security lapse in Liwonde and the whole country.
