Approximately over 2,000 languages are spoken in Africa today.
The evolution of languages and diversity has seen great improvement in communication among citizens from different countries on the continent.
Although many languages of the region are used in primary school education, some of the prominent languages are considered national and official languages.
These languages are classified as Afroasiatic languages, Niger-Congo, Nilo-Saharan and Khoisan.
In Africa, there are 25 out of 54 countries where English is used daily for official and business use.
Most of these countries where English is spoken are former British colonies except for Rwanda and Eritrea.
10. Rwanda
One of the smallest countries in Africa with a population of about 13 million and only 0.2 % of the population speaking English. Rwanda comes 10th on this list. Kinyarwanda remains the most widely spoken and national language in the region.
9. Ghana
The West African nation comes at position nine on the list of English speaking countries in Africa. English is the official language. There are approximately 11 other languages in Ghana.
8. Malawi
Malawi has a population of 19 million. Although English is the official language of the country, only 26% of the population can speak it. Chichewa is the national language of Malawi and 57% of the population speaks it.
7. Zimbabwe
With a population of 14.8 million, this country is the seventh-best English speaking country in the African continent.
6. Botswana
Another landlocked country, Botswana is located in the Southern part of Africa. English is the official language of the country despite more people speaking Setswana.
5. Zambia
Zambia has more than 70 different languages and dialects. However, English is the official language for business and official correspondence.
4. Kenya
This East African nation ranks fourth in the list of best English speaking countries in Africa. Kenya is home to various ethnic groups, all of which speak their own languages. However, the official language of Kenya is English.
3. Nigeria
Nigeria is the third-best English speaking country in the African continent. The country boasts of 206 million population, out of which 79 million can speak English.
2. South Africa
South Africa is ranked as the second-best English speaking country in the African continent. About 4.8 million people in South Africa speak English as their first language.

Uganda comes at number one on the list of African countries where people speak the best English. English became the official language of Uganda since its independence.
