BRAINSTORMING—Lawmakers and LWB management

The Lilongwe Water Board (LWB) on Wednesday engaged legislators from the district in a bid to acquaint them with knowledge on projects and initiatives it is undertaking.
Among issues discussed at the meeting were the Lilongwe water supply situation and challenges the board faces.
LWB Chief Executive Officer Silli Mbewe appealed to the parliamentarians to play a leading role in promoting the board’s work.
“These projects will only be successful if both parties fully embrace the projects and initiatives and play an active role in protecting the board’s property, which is currently being installed to improve water supply in our water supply area,” Mbewe said.
Some of the projects highlighted during the meeting were Lilongwe Water Resource Efficiency Programme which is being financed by the European Investment Bank, Lilongwe Water and Sanitation Project which is being funded by the World Bank and the Project on Strengthening the Capacity for Non–Revenue Water Reduction which is being implemented with technical and financial assistance from Japan International Cooperation Agency.
Lilongwe South Member of Parliament Peter Dimba commended the board for the organising the meeting, saying MPs are the board’s important stakeholders who need to be involved in the dissemination of the board’s messages to its customers.
Notable MPs who attended the meeting included Minister of Agriculture Lobin Lowe, Minister of Homeland Security Jean Sendeza and Minister of Foreign Affairs Nancy Tembo.
Other MPs present at the meeting were Ulemu Msungama (Lilongwe City South East), Francis Belekanyama (Lilongwe Msinja South), Alfred Jiya (Lilongwe City Centre) George Zulu (Lilongwe City West) and Gladwell Chimdzeka (Lilongwe City North).
